Connections In Otsuchi

Preserve Your Instinct is a not-for-profit creative arts group working with local communities affected by the earthquake & subsequent tsunami that hit north-east Japan in March 2011.

The extent of the damage & terror caused left many psychologically & emotionally scarred.

To support communities in dealing with their trauma, PYI organised a workshop for victims & their families to create art from recovered & recycled debris.

Around 100 people. Many, who had never before had the opportunity to express their thoughts & experiences, were finally able to share their feelings through this physical act of recreating & creating art.

These works were then shown at an exhibition called “Connections” in the town of Otsuchi, as well as in Tokyo alongside UK- based artists.

Pitfield London is honoured to showcase a collection of 20 robots made by the victims from driftwood collected from the aftermath of the tsunami.

3 further pieces have been created by artist Andrew Logan, Yinka Shonibare MBE & acclaimed fashion designer Preen by Thornton Bregazzi.
